Saving the bookstore: part 2
About two weeks ago, I wrote about how opening a bookstore would be a Very Bad Idea. That said, I also wrote about the value of bad ideas.
Today, I'm going to talk about this (bad) idea in more detail.
My starting point was to make a bookstore that I would love, since that way at least one person loves it. I also happen to love co-working, so naturally I combined everything I love about these two types of spaces.
Concept: A bookstore that also happens to be a coworking space, with a great cafe and very clean bathrooms.
I'm imagining a place where I can work during weekdays, where I can also spend time with my family during the weekend. Where all books are available in both Chinese and English. Where there are weekly reading clubs and daily Avalon or Werewolf nights in the two multi-purpose reading rooms.
I could choose to be out in the open, or be in one of the private phone booths if I need to take a call or online meeting. A copy of every book is freely available to read. Did I mention the cafe serves great coffee and the bathroom is extremely clean?
I'm still in the brainstorming stage, and asking for feedback from anyone who would listen to my idea. If you're interested in helping me build the bookstore of the future - or just want to tell me I'm a lunatic - please reach out!
